GBS Focus Groups

Introduction

As part of the key initiatives to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a location of choice, MDEC facilitated the formation of the Finance Focus Group (FFG) in 2011 which is primarily industry driven. With the evolvement of the Industry the FFG also expanded to include the different verticals that were developing within the Business Services structure and hence the FFG became the GBS Focus Group in 2017. 

The GBS Focus Group comprises of various stakeholders i.e. GBS companies, professional bodies (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) academia, GLC’s & Agencies (MDEC & TalentCorp) and the main objective of the Focus Group is to provide a common platform for Industry stakeholders to participate in;
- Roadmaps of the industry are shared and influenced within the Malaysian context
- Sharing of best practises and industry experience
- The industry voice is represented in relevant corridors of influence
- Collaboration with the Government is formalized to support growth and hub premiership.

MDEC served as the Secretariat for the Focus Group till November 2014 which was then handed over to GBS Malaysia (fka. OM) to continue for support and Secretariat functions. Currently the Focus Group boasts of more than 100 GBS companies across Malaysia and we strive to increase the reach and number of companies for the growth of the industry.

Objective
- To represent the industry in Government Policy Advocacy and engage in the Economic Transformation Program
- A platform for benchmarking, learning & the sharing of best practices
- To drive curriculum alignment between industry and academia
- To present the GBS industry as a career of choice


What We Do
- Engage in forums for best practices according to the needs of the GBS industry
- Develop and maintain a network for information sharing, ideas and solutions to issues
- Identify and refer relevant topics for research in the interest group area
- Engage with government agencies on needed support for current and future growth needs
- Promote and create awareness in GBS models in the interest group area
- Promote synergistic partnerships with other special interest groups or relevant external groups
- Be the singular point of reference for matters related to the GBS industry in Malaysia
